Bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths in Australia - more deaths than from either prostate or breast.
For the month of May Ararat pharmacies Advantage and Chemmart have bowelscan kits available for $10, which can be used to test yourself in the privacy of your own home.
Once completed simply return the kit to the pharmacy where it will be sent for analysis and should further consultation be required your GP will be contacted.
This is the second year Ararat Rotary has run the initiative.
Unlike breast or prostate cancer, bowel cancer is preventable - a key reason to raise awareness.
If detected early, 90 per cent of bowel cancers can be treated successfully, but awareness is low despite it being the second most common cancer in men and women.
Bowel Cancer screening is recommended every one to two years from the age of 50.
The $10 bowelscan kits at Chemmart Pharmacy and Advantage Pharmacy includes the cost of testing and notification of results.
