ARARAT - The Wimmera Bands Group Band Sunday was this year held in Ararat as part of the band's 150th celebrations.

The marching was won by Ararat City Band and the best drum major by Keith Moore from Ararat.
Bands that took part in the marching were Ararat City Band, St Arnaud Brass Band, Creswick Brass Band, Beaufort Municipal and Composite Band made up of members of Nhill-Dimboola Brass Band, Natimuk Brass Band and Hosham Rural City Brass Band.
The adjudicator for the morning was Darryl Wagstaff from Maryborough and was held in Elizabeth Park adjacent to the Alexandra Hall and followed by the massed bands marching on the grassed area next to the hall.
The afternoon concert consisted of each band presenting a 20 minute programme of music, participating bands were Natimuk Brass Band, Horsham Rural City Brass Band, St Arnaud Brass Band, Nhill-Dimboola Brass Band, Stawell City Band, Beaufort Municipal Band, Creswick Brass Band and Ararat City Band.
As part of their programme, Ararat performed 'City of Gold' by Australia composer Mike Fitzpatrick, a euphonium solo performed by Geoff Coote from the Nhill-Dimboola Band.
The Ararat City Band is also preparing to compete at the Bendigo Contest on May 25, its first competition as a brass band in over ten years.
