It was a dry start to the year, but there was a reprieve during the first month of autumn, with April's rainfall reaching 59.5 millimetres, bringing the yearly total to 77.2mm.
This is well up on rainfall for the same period last year of 50.9mm.
It was a soggy start to this week, with 6.9mm recorded in Ararat on Monday and 17.5mm on Tuesday.
Farmers are hoping for continued rainfall, with further showers predicted for today and across the weekend.
