Never before, since records began has Ararat reached 33 degrees Celsius in the month of April.
The previous record set back on April 12, 1985 was 32.8 degrees and had stood for almost 30 years.
The latest record breaking temperature comes in a year already dominated by dry conditions and hot weather.
Ararat's cumulative number of days of temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius in January was more than the record-breaking heatwave experienced in the final week of the same month in 2009.
It has also been a dry start to the year with just 27.8 millimetres of rain falling in the first three months of this year.
