The JSC group is part of the decision making process at the school and will be responsible for a variety of activities and fundraisers during the year.
The council consists of 14 members. Two school captains - a male and a female, and two members from each year three to six home group.
To assist the children in their roles the school conducted a leadership camp for all elected members.
At the camp, the members were involved in looking at issues of leadership and discussing hypothetical situations and undertaking activities to prepare them for their role as leaders.
The school welcomed guest speakers and teachers to conduct tutorial sessions on leadership and the group also planned activities for the coming year.
They were very lucky to have two former Ararat West students join them to share their experiences and provide examples of what it means to be young leaders.
Riley Taylor and Riley Wood are both in year 10 at the Ararat College where they are members of the Student Representative Council (SRC).
Both Rileys held leadership positions while at Ararat West including school captain, house captain and JSC representatives.
The boys discussed how their roles as leaders have changed from primary to secondary college and the leadership opportunities the Ararat College has to offer it students.
