John Alexander Forbes, 24, of Westmere, appeared for a brief filing hearing in the Bendigo Magistrate's Court on Friday morning.
His case was adjourned.
Forbes has been charged with culpable driving, dangerous driving causing death, driving while under the influence of alcohol and failing to stop and render assistance.
The charges relate to the death of a 35-year-old Yarraville woman, who was found dead in her tent on Australia Day.
Forbes stared at the floor in court as supporters and lawyers sat beside him.
He had his bail extended and was ordered to appear back before the court on June 11.
