Local resident Irene Ramsay was invited to unfurl the Australian flag, which bears an inscription that it was donated by Ballarat parliamentarian John Mildren MP and first unfurled by hall committee president, the late Ron Croft, on Australia Day, 1985.
An Australia Day reading was delivered by Amanda Harrison and her daughter Grace after everyone had sung Advance Australia Fair.
The short address was delivered by Geoff Penna, who mentioned some of the early history of his forebears, and highlighting the freedom we share and a true Australian spirit of volunteerism.
The gathering joined in reciting their acknowledgement of being an Australian citizen, following by three rousing cheers for the Elmhurst community.
