Member for Wannon Dan Tehan said he was pleased the Coalition has commenced the building of NBN for over 2,050 more homes and businesses in Western Victoria so they can get very fast broadband at speeds equivalent to the city.
"For many of these communities this will be the first time they are getting any broadband at all. Receiving the NBN shows the Coalition is determined to deliver broadband to areas with the worst services as a priority," said Mr Tehan.
"NBN Co announced that a further 13 communities will benefit from construction of NBN Co's fixed wireless network commencing in nine new sites across the region and it is expected these sites will come online in stages from the end of this year onwards."
Mr Tehan said that construction of the fixed wireless network has commenced at sites at Allansford, Camperdown (surrounds), Hamilton (surrounds), Heathmere, Macarthur, Moyston, Mt Dundas, Mt Clay and Nirranda South and for Moyston residents this will bring access to and better broadband in Moyston.
Residents in these areas are encouraged to visit the NBN Co website to see if their home or business is included as part of the coverage footprint via the interactive map: www.nbnco.com.au/rollout/rollout-map
"Fixed wireless is bringing much faster broadband to the more remote areas of Wannon which is great news for our farms and other businesses who have struggled with sub-standard internet connections for too long," Mr Tehan said.
"Fixed wireless will give these people speeds equivalent to those who live in the city and this is a great step in addressing the 'digital divide' that exists in our rural and regional communities.
"You can be assured that the Coalition will continue to improve broadband services for people in our rural and regional communities in Wannon."
