On Sunday Ararat residents are urged to don the green and gold and head down to Alexandra Gardens for the traditional Australia Day breakfast, put on by the Lions Club of Ararat from 8.30am.
The free barbecue will be accompanied by entertainment along with the announcement of Australia Day Awards,.
This year Ararat Rural City Council will award the Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Service of the Year awards to worthy recipients.
The Mayor Cr Paul Hooper will also conduct a citizenship ceremony in which a number of residents will take the Australian Citizenship Pledge.
This year's Australia Day Ambassador for Ararat is Paul Wheelton OAM.
"We are particularly excited to be welcoming our special guest as our Australia Day Ambassador and look forward to hearing the Australia day message," Mayor Cr Paul Hooper said.
"Mr Paul Wheelton OAM is an experienced professional with an extensive career that includes a reputation for determination, resourcefulness and a passionate commitment to successful organisational outcomes."
Mr Wheelton is highly sought after in various roles demonstrating a high level of expertise and corporate professionalism. He spends a very large percentage of his time and skills on charitable pursuits.
The Australia Day celebrations commence at 8.30am on Sunday.
