Parents helped get the project off the ground, with Karyn Argent making contact with Ararat Men's Shed member Ivan Cocking, requesting a chicken house.
Parents Ben Fenn and Lauren Smithwick then worked out the design with kindergarten director Kerri Turner and soon the whole chicken enclosure was built, materials, resources and time donated by Ben and Lauren, with support from a kindergarten neighbour, Craig.
The final donations which helped the idea come to fruition were the donation of another chicken coop from the Edwards family and three silky chickens donated by the Blackie family.
"Carey Street Kindergarten is extremely grateful for the generous families, businesses and members of the community that have continued to donate to our kinder in so many ways, from equipment and books, to raffle prizes," Ms Turner said.
"It has got Carey Street off to a wonderful start reopening at the beginning of 2013."
