Still no plans for Elmhurst school
THE former Elmhurst Primary School building remains in limbo with the Education department yet to decide its future. The school closed at the end of 2020 after it became clear no students were enrolled for the 2021 year, although the Education Department said the school officially closed in 2023.

Since late 2020, the school has sat empty, although electricity remains connected to the building and the school grounds are periodically maintained.
The historic school served the local community for 152 years ahead of its closure.
The school, once immaculately maintained by staff, parents and students, looks a little shabby these days after five years without students.
The closure of the school was a blow to the Elmhurst community, with many local residents and their families educated there over its 152 years of operation.
Like many towns, Elmhurst has seen a decline in population over recent years leading to a loss of services.
The local shop is now only a part time post office and the pub closed at the start of COVID-19, although plans are underway for it to reopen.
The Advocate contacted the Education Department this week for an update on the future of the school.
“Elmhurst Primary School closed in 2023, and no decision has been made about the site’s future,” a spokesperson said.
