Stawell Golf Bowls finals bound
With one round remaining in the Grampians Playing Area Lawn Bowls pennant season before finals, Stawell Golf will have two teams in the finals, while Stawell is on the edge of qualifying in Division One, having sealed a Division Two spot.
Stawell Golf hosted Ararat last Saturday and won 83-60, winning two rinks and tying the other.
The closest rink of the day was a one-shot victory. That rink was skippered by Gary Blackman. Featuring Peter Walker, Donald Austerberry and Robin Austerberry, they won 22-21.
Bryan Adamson skippered his rink to a commanding victory. Featuring David Kaczynski, Graham Pearson and Rob Gibson, they won 35-13.
Greg Reading skippered his rink to a tie. Featuring Andrew Reading, Ashley Howard and Peter Greenberger, they drew 26-26.
In Division Two, they also won big, defeating Ararat 77-50, claiming all three rinks on the day.
Les Montgomery’s rink, featuring Garth Morris, Brian Malcolm and Laurie Millikin, won 23-15.
Terry Ellis’s rink, featuring Murray McGaffin, Michael Burrett and Gweneth Power, won 27-16.
Bruce Blenheim’s rink, featuring Dawn Blackman, Graham Healy and Peter Cross, won 27-19.
Stawell, meanwhile, are in a battle for the final spot in the finals with Aradale in Division One after losing to Chalambar Golf, 57-69.
In that match, two rinks were drawn, while the rink skippered by David Young was the decisive rink, winning 27-15.
Andrew Sharp’s rink, featuring Amy Hodgetts, Peter Pianta and Ivan McDonald, drew 21-21, and Robert Maconachie’s rink, featuring Bob McGregor, Rodney Rickard and Glenda Cameron, drew 21-21.
Division Two is in the finals, and fighting Stawell Golf for second place following a 78-67 win over Chalambar.
Stawell won two rinks on the day. Trevor Skurrie’s rink, featuring Trevor Preston, Mark Galdes and Ben Van Maanen, won 27-20, while Bill Skurrie’s rink, featuring Butch Russell, Andrew Elliott and Robert Carey, won 25-15.
Tomorrow, Stawell Golf hosts Aradale and Stawell traves to take on Lake Bolac and District. Stawell's fate lies in the hands of Stawell Golf. Should Stawell Golf defeat Aradale, and Stawell win, they will make the finals.
