Safety fears remain despite servo approval
A NORTHERN Grampians Shire councillor has maintained his opposition to a controversial Longfield Street service station, warning that road safety concerns remain despite council reversing its decision to refuse the development. Cr Jack Blake, who seconded the motion to reject the proposed service station in May, said he remained convinced the location was dangerous for motorists, particularly heavy vehicle operators. His comments follow council’s decision to issue a planning permit for the development at 61–71 Longfield Street after negotiations through the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), despite councillors unanimously rejecting the proposal in May over concerns about road safety, residents’ health and neighbourhood amenity.

Stawell resident Robyn Hewitt is concerned about the proposed service station next door to her Longfield Street home and says she received no direct communication about the development from council or the developer.
