Pomonal Flower Show blossoms with record-breaking attendance
A record number of people attended this year’s Pomonal Native Flower Show. Australian Plant Society Grampians Group members who organised the event were delighted with over 1,700 visitors coming along to admire the flowers, learn about growing them and purchase some to take home.

Society president, Fiona Lucas, said that throughout the weekend’s events there was a “happy buzz in the air”.
She said aligning this year’s show with Vaughn’s Nursery and the WAMA endemic botanical garden gave visitors an extended experience to enjoy.
Jocelyn King was the show’s convenor and said a main aim of the group was to encourage people to plant native species in their gardens to increase biodiversity.
She explained that despite the very dry conditions experienced during the past eighteen months, and the two fires that had impacted the area since February 2024, members had been able to gather a remarkable display of beautiful wildflowers.
The 2025 theme of “Colour Your Garden” showcased the blooms in an alternative way to previous shows, and visitors were able to admire them in swathes of colours ranging from the palest creams to vibrant reds and purples.
One enthusiastic visitor told society member, Wendy Marriot, that the Pomonal show’s colour gradations and floral installations were “even better than England’s Chelsea Flower Show.”
Certainly, all who visited Pomonal were pleased they could experience a magnificent display of native flowers pretty much in their own back yard.
Fiona Lucas said none of the weekend’s events would have happened without the dedication of the members who grew the flowers and gave up their time for days before and after to assist.
She added that plans were already underway for next year’s event, and the group was always keen to have newcomers join.
