Matildas fever has spread across sporting codes with several stadiums hosting AFL games to screen the FIFA Women's World Cup quarter-final against France. The Sydney Cricket Ground is welcoming its members to stay on after an early afternoon Sydney AFL derby to watch the must-win match on August 12. Perth's Optus Stadium will open its doors to ticketholders hours before hosting the AFL clash between West Coast and Fremantle, to screen the Matildas live on its big screens. Meanwhile in Melbourne there are reports the quarter-final could be shown on the MCG's big screens before a blockbuster Carlton and Melbourne AFL game - which has already been bumped five minutes later to 7.30pm to cater for the world cup match. It comes after the Matildas have already smashed television ratings in their matches so far. The side's round of 16 win over Denmark was the highest-rating program of 2023 - exceeding the viewership of this year's State of Origin series. The Matildas' quarter-final kicks off at Brisbane Stadium at 5pm AEST on August 12 and will be broadcast on Channel 7 and Optus Sport. Channel 7 has also taken the rare move of pushing its staple 6pm news bulletin to the completion of the Matildas' match to provide uninterrupted coverage. IN OTHER NEWS: For those without tickets to the game in Brisbane there are live sites around the country to watch alongside other fans and soak up the atmosphere. The fan festivals are free to attend and are for people of all ages. There are also public viewing events across NSW which can be found at sport.nsw.gov.au/fifawwc
