ANYONE strolling towards the top end of Main Street has likely heard the sounds of hammers and sanders emanating from the shop at number 136 this week as a new business prepares to open its doors.

When The Stawell Times-News popped in to see what was happening, local resident Rhian Jones was on the tools, and she was excited to share her plans to open a gift shop.

“It will be called Gifted Home and Lifestyle, sort of a play on words for the Stawell Gift and it’s my gift to the community, because I love this community and I wanted to do something good for them, so this is my idea,” Rhian said.

The store will offer a diverse range of decorative home items and gift ideas to suit everyone.

“We’ll have all the things people are familiar with and love,” Rhian said.

“Beautiful home decorative pieces, kitchen and lifestyle items, cups, pottery, we’ll have jewellery and giftware for all ages.

Rhian is looking forward to the challenge of operating a gift shop and has had a lot of positive feedback regarding her idea.

“My friends are amazing, they’ve been super supportive,” she said.

The store will add a new flavour to Main Street, with the building undergoing a significant transformation from its former identity.

“I remember this building from 40 years ago when it was a hairdresser, it’s always been hairdressing, and this is its first foray in a long time into something different” Rhian said.

At this stage, Rhian is aiming to have the store open in October.

“We’ll be open five-and-a-half days a week and we’ll be open for Christmas and have lots of Christmas-specific products in.”
