"I want to thank Jess (Wilson) and the leadership team for their kindness and support over this time,” Mr McCracken said.

“I've been looking at where I am in life, and I want to focus on growing a family and looking after my health.

“Politics is a very demanding job, and it deserves 100% commitment. I can't give that

commitment for the next four years.

“My intention is to serve out the remainder of my term which ends at the November 2026 state election.

“I am resigning as Shadow Cabinet Secretary and as Shadow Assistant Minister for Education so that another colleague has the opportunity to serve in these important roles. I thank Brad Battin and Jess Wilson for allowing me to serve in this important role.

Opposition Leader Jess Wilson has paid tribute to Mr McCracken and the role he has played representing Western Victoria.

“Today I extend my sincere gratitude to Joe McCracken on behalf of the Victorian Liberal Party following his decision not to contest the state election in November.

“Joe has brought an incredible energy to Parliament and worked diligently for his community in Western Victoria since his election in 2022.

“He has represented the Liberal Party and Liberal values with distinction in Ballarat and the surrounding region.

“Joe has made an immense contribution during his time in Parliament. Born and raised in Ballarat, he has always acted with his community’s best interest at heart.

“I offer my profound thanks to Joe and wish him and Jack all the very best for their next chapter,” she said.
