Mayor to represent Stawell on advisory committee
MAYOR Karen Hyslop will continue to be Stawell’s representative on the Grampians Health Advisory Committee.
At last week’s council meeting, councillors discussed whether to appoint a representative to the committee.
Grampians Health – which runs the Ballarat, Stawell, Horsham and Edenhope hospitals, is in the process of reorganising its Community Advisory Committee, which reports directly to the Grampians Health Board.
Grampians Health Chief Executive Officer Dale Fraser has extended an invitation for Council to nominate a representative to join the committee.
The role of nominees includes attending meetings, offering input, and serving as a channel for communicating the group's ideas and plans back to council.
Cr Jenny Greenberger moved a motion for Cr Hyslop to be council’s representative on the committee.
“I would like to move that council appoints a councillor as a representative to the Grampians Health Community Advisory Committee and that councillor be Mayor Karen Hyslop.
“Grampians Health as we all know is the main provider of health care in Stawell through the Stawell Hospital and we are very pleased they are going to continue to arrange for a community advisory committee which reports directly to the Grampians Health board.
“I believe it is very much in council’s interest to have a representative as part of that community advisory committee in order to keep communication channels open so that Mayor Hyslop can come back to council with any relevant information that concerns directly the Stawell community and for us to act,” Cr Greenberger said.
Cr Justine Hide said Cr Hyslop was the ideal person to represent council and the community on the board.
“I think the appointment of yourself (Cr Hyslop) is the perfect fit with your health and medical background so it’s a perfect situation you can be that link for us,” Cr Hide said.
Councillors agreed to continue providing a representative to the committee and Cr Hyslop accepted the nomination.
