Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Ben Carroll confirmed 55 schools will share in $35.077 million through the Planned Maintenance Program (PMP).

Principal Ben Gallagher said the funding would make a significant difference, particularly in maintaining the school’s historic buildings.

“The big thing for the school is it’s going to upkeep the old historical buildings,” he said. “It’s going to make it more comfortable for the kids, and easier to learn and work in, which of course reflects out into the community as well.”

Mr Gallagher said the grant would allow the school to undertake major works that would otherwise be out of reach.

“It’s a massive benefit to be able to do that. The standard funding we get is not enough, we wouldn’t be able to replace the whole roof, so to get that funding to be able to do that just takes one big stress off our plate. It makes it significantly easier,” he said.

Additionally the school will undergo a series of smaller projects to bring it up to standard for emergency events including a revamp of the schools garden beds to improve fire safety.

Member for Ripon Martha Haylett said the funding has been in the pipeline for some time.

“Landsborough Primary School has been seeking funding to undergo some much needed maintenance and I’m so pleased we have been able to deliver a significant amount to get the job done,” she said.

Minister Carroll said the investment was part of a broader commitment to improving school facilities across Victoria.

“Not only have we opened 121 brand-new public schools, we’re also ensuring our existing schools are in the best shape for our students,” he said.

“Practical improvements like a fresh coat of paint or upgrading emergency shelters mean Victorian students can learn in modern schools with up-to-date facilities.”
