Lions win thriller, move to fifth
The Great Western Lions B-Grade netballers have moved a game clear in fifth position after defeating Penshurst Bombers by three goals in a thriller at Great Western Recreation Reserve in round eight of the Mininera Netball League.
The Lions took a slender two-goal lead into quarter-time before the Bombers reversed it in the second to lead by that margin at half-time.
The Bombers started to get the edge in the third, capitalising on turnovers and putting pressure on the Lions to extend their margin to six at three-quarter time.
The Lions in front of their home crowd weren’t going to be deterred, producing a massive 14-goal quarter to overrun the Bombers in the last to win 41-38.
Amy Millar was sensational in attack for the Lions scoring 28 goals while Dana Humphrey scored 10 and Chloe Davies scored three.
Jess Kindred and Kimberley Shalders were outstanding in defence, while Isabel De La Rosa was solid at wing defence and Inika Shalders and Ella Cox was excellent in the centre and wing attack respectively.
The win now moves the Lions a game clear of Caramut on the ladder and one game behind the Ararat Eagles.
This week, they face third-placed Glenthompson Dunkeld in a tough encounter.
