Lions fun run and market on today
GREAT Western Football Netball Club will host a fun run fundraiser today (Saturday) in what they anticipate will become a permanent fixture on the Great Western events calendar. The Lion Chase Fun Run will unfold over three different distances, giving participants of all abilities a chance to get involved and enjoy the event. Club president Dale Hurley said the event was a new opportunity to raise money to boost the Lions’ efforts to provide a great environment for kids.
“The club has made considerable efforts to rejuvenate our junior programs across both football and netball over the past few years with additional resources allocated to make our initiatives possible,” said Mr Hurley.
“The club has created a family-focused culture that we are really proud of.”
“Our junior programs are more than simply providing weekly activities such as Auskick or Mods netball, we are creating an environment for families to come together and connect with each other - That’s what Great Western Football Netball Club is all about.”
Tomorrow’s fun run starts at Best’s Wines on Best’s Road, Great Western, and winds through the wine village’s picturesque landscape before finishing near the Great Western Hotel on Cubitt Street, with return transport provided for people to collect their vehicles from the starting post.
“It’s going to be a fun event where people can walk or run the 2.5km or 5km courses, otherwise running can get some pace up in the 13km course,” said Mr Hurley.
“There will be awards in each category for first across the line, and also encourage people to dress up if they want and plan to stay in town and join us at the Thomson Community Centre for the Twilight Market which starts at 3pm.
“Free shower and change facilities will be available to participants at the Thomson Community Centre to save people needing to venture home.”
The Lion Chase Fun Run kick-offs at 10.30am for the13km run, 11am for the 5km and 11.30am for the 2.5km group.
Registrations is available on the day and participants must arrive 30 minutes before race time - Tickets start at $10 for kids and $15 for adults with a family ticket also available for $45.
