Lion Chase Fun Run a resounding success

Great Western Football Netball Club’s recent Lions Chase Fun Run and twilight market was a resounding success, as the club raised money for junior sporting programs. Excellent weather greeted the runners, with 102 participating to run over the 2.5km, 5km, or 13km course.

Club president Dale Hurley said it was a fantastic day.

“One hundred people were the goal, and to get 102 was fantastic,” he said.

“We had the majority of signups on the day, so during the week were a bit nervous on numbers, but to hit the goal was excellent, and we hope to double that next year.”

Hurley said they will be sending out feedback forms and that he has already identified what they need to do better.

“Everyone was really happy with the courses and variety on offer,” he said.

“We will look to have entertainment at the start and finish, and welcome feedback from participants so we can make it a bigger and better event.”

Despite several vendors pulling out of the twilight market, Hurley was impressed with how it ran with plenty of people enjoying drinks and food on the grass, and

“It was a great success in terms of patronage, and we had approximately 1000 people filter through throughout the day, which was fantastic,” he said.

“It was our first foray into this event, and what we understand from other vendors is that it’s quite common for some to pull out.

“We will look to improve that next year.”

Hurley was also impressed with the number of kids who showed up.

“The kids' movie was a highlight, with approximately 60 watching the movie on offer, which was ‘Sing 2’,” he said.

“That for me was the surprise packet of the day, and it was well received.

“We couldn’t have picked better weather, and it was great to see so many kids kicking balls and throwing frisbees. It was fantastic.”
