Landsborough and District claim upset win

Following their successful annual tournament last week, the Landsborough and District Bowling Club caused an upset in the Lawn Bowls return for 2026, defeating Stawell Golf 85-69.

Beginning round 12, second last on the ladder, facing the third-placed team, Landsborough and District were on fire, winning two of the three rinks, with the losing rink a one-shot loss. 

Robert Hodgett’s skippered rink, featuring Corey Hope, Anthony Batchelor and Shane Vance, won 30-18.  

Roland ‘Red’ Currie, who bowled well last week, led his rink to a strong win. Featuring Garry Hutton, Michael Matthews and Gary Hannett, they won 29-24.  

Gary Green’s rink bowled well in their loss to the rink led by Greg Reading. Featuring Gerald Parry, Dennis Low and Craig Stewart, they lost 26-27 with some excellent bowling featured during the day.  

Chalambar Golf continues to roar at the top of the ladder, with a strong 106-45 win over Lake Bolac and District.  

Chalambar Golf dominated all three rinks. Chris Young’s rink, featuring Richard Harricks, Terry O’Connell and Gary Todd, won 40-20. Jess Austin also led his rink to a strong win. Featuring Mark Griffits, Michael Jennings and Hans Holz, they won 30-16.  

The biggest margin of the day, however, was in Shane Todd’s rink. Featuring Tony Carra, Bill Waterston and Michael Franklin, they won 36-9. 

Second-placed Ararat VRI suffered a 61-72 loss to Stawell Golf at home, winning just one rink.  

That rink was skippered by Clayton Holcombe. Featuring Craig Wight, Richard Schwab and Shelley Holcombe, they won 34-17.

In the final match, Aradale defeated Ararat 75-67 in a tight contest, winning two rinks.  

Gary Jamieson’s rink, featuring Gary Sherwell, Peter Oehm and Michael Dowling, enjoyed the biggest win of the day, which decided the match, winning 27-19.  

Daniel Todd skippered his rink to a thrilling two-shot victory. Featuring Brett Sladdin, David Todd and Ken Mahney, they won 26-24.  

Ararat’s winning rink also came in a two-shot thriller. Skippered by Richard Fisher, and featuring Doug Walton, Janet Steer and Majorie Robertson, they won 24-22.  

In Division Two, Ararat VRI had an excellent win over Stawell. Ararat VRI started the round in fourth position with five wins, while Stawell was the more fancied team, sitting second with nine.  

Ararat VRI won two rinks on the day. Neil Arendshorst’s rink, featuring Kim Preston, Mick Bulger and Nathan Bendelle, won 29-23.  

Alan Dunn skippered his rink to the biggest of the day. Featuring Pat McAloon, Allan Pascoe and Rod McClurg, they won 31-19.  

In other results, Aradale stays firm at the top of the ladder following a 92-42 win over Ararat, Lake Bolac and District defeated Chalambar Golf in a 64-61 thriller, and Stawell Golf defeated Aradale Blue 90-53.
