In memory of Lyn
ARARAT RSL has taken steps to enshrine the memory of a former board member. Lyn Russell, who spent eight years of the Ararat RSL board, passed away in July after a lifetime of service to the Australian military and veterans’ welfare.
Lyn was the driving force behind the local Anzac and Poppy Appeals, founded the RSL Active program, and dedicated countless hours to becoming an accredited Veteran Advocate so she could better support veterans and their families.
As a proud Navy Veteran herself, she understood the importance of mateship, service and supporting those who had served.
Her friends and colleagues said Lyn never sought recognition. She simply saw a need and quietly got on with helping others.
“Even throughout her own courageous battle, Lyn remained focused on others.
“Her strength, resilience and unwavering compassion were an inspiration to everyone who knew her,” the RSL stated on social media.
“The impact Lyn has left on the Ararat RSL, our veterans and the wider community is immeasurable. She touched countless lives through her kindness, generosity and selfless service, and her legacy will continue for many years to come.”
Ararat RSL board members Scott Rigby, Greg Dalmayer and Brad Hunt recently planted a rose and erected a plaque outside the RSL building in High Street in memory of their colleague.
“The rose and plaque now provide a lasting tribute to Lyn and a place where members, friends and visitors can pause and remember her remarkable contribution. As the rose grows and blooms in the years ahead, it will serve as a beautiful reminder of Lyn and the difference she made to so many,” the RSL board said.
