Hyslop likely to continue as Mayor
KAREN Hyslop appears set to continue for another year as the Mayor of Northern Grampians Shire with Cr Justine Hide remaining her deputy. Councillors will meet on Monday night for their annual statutory meeting where they will vote on who will lead the municipality for the next 12 months.

Unlike neighbouring councils, the Northern Grampians Shire has developed a ‘cone of silence’ around the vote, with no one publicly speaking about their ambitions.
The Stawell Times-News attempted to contact all councillors to see if they are interested in the job, but direct answers weren’t forthcoming.
Cr Hyslop told the Stawell Times-News she hasn’t made up her mind.
“I’m keeping my options open,” she said.
Cr Justine Hide was also approached by the Stawell Times-News for comment, but remained tight lipped.
“You know I can’t talk about that. You’ll find out Monday,” she said.
Cr Jenny Greenberger ruled herself out of the race, but left her options open for future years.
“I’m not ready for it yet. I’m the new councillor on the block. Perhaps next year,” she said.
Cr Jack Blake was also unwilling to comment, but did confirm he wasn’t a candidate for either job.
“No mate, no. Maybe in the future.”
Cr Karen Probst said she has no intentions of putting her hand up.
“I don’t have time to be Mayor. I just want to represent my community.
When asked if she would consider running in the future, Cr Probst said “not in the immediate future, but you never say never.”
Cr Murray Emerson did not return calls made by the Stawell Times-News.
Councillors will meet at 6pm on Monday night in Stawell to officially elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
