Grampians Health officially opened its brand new $5.15 million second operating theatre at Stawell’s Hospital yesterday.
Grampians Health officially opened its brand new $5.15 million second operating theatre at Stawell’s Hospital yesterday.
Chief Executive of Grampians Health, Dale Fraser, attended the event and spoke on how the feat was a significant milestone for the Grampians Health organisation and for Stawell.
“It was an early ambition that [Grampians Health] had to increase the capacity of the local hospital to meet more of the local need,” he said.
“To do that, we identified quite early on the desire to increase the operating theatre capacity here in Stawell.”
With the extra operating theatre and the upgraded surgical facilities is expecting to see an expansion in surgeries done in Stawell.
“Starting shortly, we will hope to see expansions in surgeries such as urology, extra general surgery and extra chronological scenery, all things that, unfortunately, our local community has great need of,” Mr Fraser said.
“It's a disappointment for all that we see people come to hospital, because it really is not a place where people would like to be.
“I sincerely do think that our goal as an organisation is to ensure that we continue to meet and respond to growing and emerging needs.”
Mr Fraser also touched on the upgraded rooms around the operating theatre.
“While it is important that we have an operating theatre, it's also important that the rooms that go around the operating theatre,” he said.
“The break rooms, the quiet rooms and write up rooms, are all elements that contribute to the capacity for clinicians to do their work in a safe and effective way.”
