Glenorchy Hall comes to life

The Festival of Small Halls made its way to Glenorchy on Sunday, attracting over 100 people.
Festival of Small Halls is a series of tours that takes the best folk and contemporary acoustic artists performing at two of our country’s largest festivals – the Woodford and Port Fairy Folk Festivals - and sends them on the road to tiny halls in communities all over Australia.
It’s an opportunity for music-lovers from welcoming communities to invite artists from home and abroad into their towns.
Glenorchy Memorial Hall Secretary Elisa Dunstan said it was a wonderful afternoon for locals and visitors alike.
“We sold over 100 tickets. It’s the third time we’ve had the Small Halls Festival here and it is pretty popular,” she said.
“We try and do a series of events through the hall, different things for different people. Probably 50 per-cent of the people there on Sunday were locals. A lot of the farming community come in and get to catch up with each other and also we had some people who hadn’t been to Glenorchy for some time.”
Rhythm and roots duo Hat Fitz and Cara, and UK artist Lucy Farrell performed on stage along with local musician Dave Nicholson.
“It is really helpful to bring the community together and we don’t get a lot of live music here so to give people the opportunity to come out on a Sunday afternoon and listen to some music they may not normally be exposed to in a lovely setting in our little hall was quite nice,” Ms Dunstan said.
