Funding secured for upgrades to Ararat's network of walking and bike paths
Ararat Rural City Council has secured funding for cycling infrastructure.
Funding has been successfully secured by Ararat Rural City Council to support a significant expansion and upgrade to a key component of the municipality's transport infrastructure.
Ararat's cycling network is set to receive close to 10km of new and upgraded pathways, a project driven by the Council's 'Ararat on the Move' strategy, which aims to provide opportunities that promote walking and bike riding as a safe and accessible mode of transportation.
"It's crucial that we invest in infrastructure that encourages the community to lead an active lifestyle, as well as supports economic growth for our region," Ararat Rural City Council mayor Jo Armstrong said.
"This project will provide residents and visitors with greater opportunities to experience Ararat's diverse attractions, discover our wonderful local businesses and explore the stunning scenery."
This renewed network of bike tracks will provide better connectivity to several key locations across Ararat's CBD.
This project is supported by $266,000 received from the Federal Government's Active Transport Fund, and a $133,000 contribution from ARCC.
The Active Transport Fund seeks to encourage an increase in active transport through the upgrade of existing and construction of new bicycle and walking pathways across Australia.
This project also aligns with key objectives under Council's Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2021-15, by enhancing nature-based recreational opportunities across the municipality.
It also supports ARCC's Council Plan 2021-25 which aims to provide economic growth and promote community wellbeing and safety.
