From Around the World to Regional Victoria: How Country Therapy is Creating Connections
Relocating to a new country is a major life change. Along with starting a new job comes the challenge of settling into an unfamiliar community, building new friendships and adapting to a different way of life. Through its CT Global Initiative, Country Therapy is helping Occupational Therapists from around the world make that transition while strengthening access to allied health services across regional Victoria.

The program was developed to attract skilled clinicians to regional communities where demand for Occupational Therapy services continues to grow. Beyond professional opportunities, the initiative focuses on helping international staff feel supported both inside and outside the workplace through practical assistance, professional development and opportunities to connect with colleagues and the community.
For Chen, one of the most valuable aspects of the program has been meeting others who understand the experience of starting fresh in a new country.
"I've gained practical advice, encouragement and a genuine sense of belonging," Chen said.
That sense of connection is something shared by many of the therapists who have joined the initiative.
Emylisa said the support network she found through Country Therapy helped make the transition to Australia much easier.
"Adjusting to a new country and work environment can feel overwhelming at times, but having a supportive community has made a big difference," she said.
While working as a mobile Occupational Therapist can mean travelling between different communities and clients, Country Therapy has focused on ensuring staff remain connected and supported.
For Minenhle, knowing there is always someone available to turn to has been a key part of the experience.
"There is always someone available to call, debrief with or seek guidance from. The team feels more like family than colleagues," Minenhle said.
As regional communities continue to grow, initiatives like CT Global are helping attract talented healthcare professionals while ensuring they have the support needed to build successful careers and meaningful lives in Australia.
For the therapists who have already made the move, the program has delivered more than just a job. It has helped create friendships, confidence and a genuine sense of belonging in their new home.
