At a gathering at the Gorden Street Oval this week, volunteers were thanked for their tireless work with the health service including those who deliver meals of sheels, fundraise, work to provide activities and run the ARK Toy Library.

Board member Lisa Davidson said volunteers were the backbone of the health service.

“This is an opportunity to thank our volunteers for all that they do, whether it be fundraising, helping with activities, driving the buses, delivering meals on wheel or being a consumer on a committee,” she said.

I would like to say a genuine thank you for everything that you do, all of our amazing volunteers, you are at the heart of everything that we stand for in providing health and connectivity in the community.

“Your time, energy and kindness makes all the difference,” Ms Davidson said.

Volunteer David Clayton was asked to address the gathering about driving clients around the countryside and his work with a men’s group which provides activities and engagement for residents in aged care.

Mr Clayton and his wife moved to Ararat two and a half years ago after spending time holidaying at Accacia Caravan Park and wanted to become involved in the local community.

He said he’s eventually like to see a shed set up on site where men can congregate.

“I guess moving forward, my dream would be to see a designated area or shed somewhere where we can set up a safe, user friendly work environment.”

There are many areas where local residents ca offer their services across the health service’s campuses in Ararat and Willaura, as well as four auxiliaries, who volunteer on site, and arrange fundraising events to support various areas of the health service.
