Donation elevates dementia care
SPECIALIST care for elderly retirees living with dementia will reach new levels of quality in Stawell following a remarkable show of generosity from a humble local family. Halls Gap’s Mangle family has donated $1.7 million to aged care providers Eventide Homes, to be used towards redeveloping infrastructure and physical environment needs for residents living with dementia.
CEO of Eventide Homes, Gary Simpson, said the donation was unprecedented in the aged care facility’s history.
“Pip Mangle, and his brother Chas Mangle, have made incredible philanthropic donations that will help Eventide Homes position itself on its journey to be a specialist provider for the region,” said Mr Simpson.
“The $1.7 million is on top of $50,000 the family donated previously, which we used to refurbish an old and worn part of the facility into fresh new rooms for families and visitors to rest and relax.”
Mr Simpson said that Eventide Homes will honour its pledge to the Mangle family to spend every dollar on benefits for residents living with dementia.
“Not a single dollar will go towards overheads or into general revenue,” he said.
“The Mangle family has requested we spend the $1.7 million on bricks and mortar-type projects for dementia, and we’ve already taken steps towards that, with a national dementia design expert visiting our site in late August.”
The donation is expected to propel Stawell to new heights as a service provider for elderly people affected by dementia, with Eventide Homes setting themselves ambitious goals to offer best-in-class care.

“The generosity of the Mangle family will benefit aged people in Stawell and the region for many years to come,” said Mr Barham.
“We want to redevelop our facility into a design benchmark, and the donations from Pip and Chas will not only help put Stawell on the map as a preferred provider of specialist dementia services to aged people, but it is really exciting for our town to have this ability too.”
The Stawell Times-News reached out to Chas Mangle this week for a few comments about the significant donation and while it was a lovely chat as always, he humbly left it to Eventide to speak about how the donation will help the local community.
