Derbies bring the heat
Rain couldn’t dampen the local derby between Stawell Golf and Stawell Bowling Club last Saturday in round four of the Grampians Lawn Bowls Pennant competition.
Stawell Golf was too strong for Stawell Bowling Club in Division One, while Stawell handed Golf their first loss in Division Two.
In Division One, Stawell Golf won 89-49, winning all three rinks to remain undefeated in the 2025/2026 season.
Rink one, skippered by Gary Blackman, featuring Adrian Troeth, Robin Austerberry and Les Montgomery, won 28-18. Stawell’s rink was skippered by Andrew Cray and featured Angela Hodgetts, Robert Maconachie, and Robert Nicholson.
Rink two, skippered by Bryan Adamson featuring Peter Walker, Brian Malcolm, and John Griffiths, won 34-16 over the rink skippered by Amy Hodgetts, featuring Peter Pianta, Rodney Rickard, and Wayne Watson.
Rink three, skippered by Greg Reading, featuring Andrew Reading, Ashley Howard, and Peter Greenberger, won 27-15 over the rink skippered by Andrew Sharp, featuring Neil Coates, Louis Martin, and Ivan McDonald.
Tomorrow, Stawell Golf hosts Landsborough, and Stawell hosts Ararat VRI.
In Division Two, Stawell won all of the rinks in an 85-56 win.
Rink one, skippered by Trevor Preston, featuring Butch Russell, Glenda Cameron, and William Byron, won 21-15 over the rink skippered by Terry Ellis, featuring Murray McGaffin, Graham Healy, and Gweneth Power.
Rink two, skippered by Ellen Werry, featuring Barry Werry, Keith Brilliant, and Geoff Wallace, won 29-20 over the rink skippered by Garth Morris, featuring Dawn Blackman, Michael Burrett, and Laurie Millikin.
Rink three, skippered by Bill Skurrie, featuring Trevor Skurrie, Andrew Elliott, and Robert Carey, won 35-21 over the rink skippered by Bruce Blenheim, featuring Karen Brennan, Peter Cross, and Ivan Fox.
On Saturday, Stawell Golf hosts Aradale, while Stawell hosts Ararat VRI.
