Close call as car and caravan roll near Stawell

MOTORISTS faced significant delays on the Western Highway north of Stawell on Monday morning after a vehicle towing a caravan left the roadway and rolled down an embankment near the Webb Road intersection. Police and emergency services were called to the crash on Horsham Road about 11am on March 2, with traffic banking up in both directions as crews responded under overcast skies.

“It is believed a Ford Territory towing a caravan left Horsham Road and rolled down an embankment, about 11am,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.

The vehicle sustained extensive damage.

The driver, a 50-year-old woman from Flagstaff Hill in South Australia, was extracated from the vehicle and taken to hospital for observation.

A 49-year-old male passenger, also from Flagstaff Hill, was freed from the vehicle and treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Emergency services remained on site for some time as the vehicle and caravan were recovered and the highway cleared.

“An investigation into the incident is ongoing,” the spokesperson said.
