Car fire under investigation on Ararat’s outskirts
A vehicle fire on the outskirts of Ararat last Sunday night is being treated as suspicious, police have confirmed. Emergency services were called to the intersection of Burrumbeep–Boundary Road and Jacksons Creek Road about 9.40pm following reports of a car engulfed in flames.

When The Ararat Advocate attended the scene, firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze, which was contained to the vehicle.
Victoria Police confirmed the matter is under investigation.
“Police are investigating car fire in Ararat on 8 February,” a Victoria Police spokesperson said.
“Emergency services were called to reports of a car engulfed in flames at the intersection of Burrumbeep-Boundary and Jacksons Creek roads about 9.40pm.
“Fire crews extinguished the blaze which is being treated as suspicious, the investigation is ongoing.”
Several local residents at the scene suggested the burnt vehicle may have been linked to a reportedly stolen utility seen in Ararat earlier that evening. Police did not confirm that information.
Crime data from the Crime Statistics Agency Victoria shows 31 recorded incidents of motor vehicle theft and 11 incidents of arson in the Ararat Rural City Council area in the 12 months to September 2025.
