Busy end of year at Halls Gap

SOME new little faces checking out all the fun to look forward to next year were treated to an impromptu rehearsal by Halls Gap Primary School students this week as the school prepares for an end-of-year concert. Co-principals Sam Stoffel and Jess McCosh have welcomed six prospective new students for their orientation into grade prep, and during their visit last Wednesday they got a sneak preview of dance routines students have put together for their upcoming performance.

Two of Halls Gap Primary School's four graduating grade six students, Josh (left) and Tom, are looking forward to the school's end-of-year concert on December 11.

“We’re gearing up for our concert, which is on Thursday December 11th, to celebrate our community and everything our community has done for our school,” Ms Stoffel said.

“The kids created invitations, and have invited everybody from the community, all the businesses and anyone who has supported us in any way, people are starting to get excited and hopefully everybody is going to come along.”

The concert will be a great way to cap off a big year for the school’s four grade six students, who will be celebrated the following day with a graduation ceremony.

Ms Stoffel is proud of the momentum Halls Gap Primary School has generated since implementing its co-principal approach mid-year, and said the entire school community is looking forward to building on it next year.

“We’ve had our challenges but we’ve worked through them, and we’ve had a lot of success and a lot to be positive about for this year,” said Ms Stoffel.

“We’re looking forward to being able to move forward in a strong direction next year with both Jess and I at the helm.”

The prep orientation is a sign that things are headed in the right direction for the picturesque school, with the student population set to grow for 2026.

“We’ve got six preps coming, possibly seven actually,” she said.

“We lose four, and get six or seven in, which is good, and we’ll still run two classrooms again, at this stage, for next year.”

“For the six little preppies all here today, it’s their second day, we have four days of orientation.

“We start off with one hour, two hours, three hours and then a half day, which is really nice and we think it works well, and if they require any additional time, we will accommodate that too, if there’s any kids who require just a little bit of extra time."
