Better water on the way for Moyston
A cleaner and more reliable water supply is on its way to Moyston residents with work underway on a new pipeline.
GWMWater Acting General Manager Nick Mumford said construction of the pipeline between Ararat and Moyston is currently underway and is expected to be completed around October.
“Once construction is finished, the existing Moyston water network will undergo cleaning to prepare it for drinking water use. Following the network cleaning, extensive water sampling and testing will be undertaken to ensure the supply meets all drinking water quality requirements,” he said.
The contract to provide improved water for Moyston residents cost $5.5 million and GWMWater said it will provide the town with access to a treated drinking water supply sourced from the Ararat Water Treatment Plant.
“Subject to those processes being successfully completed, GWMWater expects Moyston to receive official drinking water status from the Department of Health in early 2027,” Mr Mumford said.
“This project will deliver a significant improvement for the Moyston community by providing access to a treated drinking water supply that meets drinking water standards.
“While there are still several steps to complete following construction, including network cleaning, testing and regulatory approvals, we're looking forward to achieving drinking water status for Moyston in early 2027,” he said.
The upgrade is part of a wider program to provide improved water to smaller towns across the GWM catchment.
In 2024, the water authority embarked on a solar water treatment plant in Elmhurst which has vastly improved the quality of water piped to the local community.
