Ararat VRI win thriller

Ararat VRI defeated Chalambar Bowls 74-71 in a thriller in round four of the Grampians Lawn Bowls Pennant season.

Team one, skippered by Clayton Holcombe, featuring Shelley Holcombe, Richard Schwab and Craig Wight, won 28-23 over the rink skippered by Shane Todd, featuring Michael Franklin, Michael Jennings, and Tony Carra.  

The thrilling rink of the day was team two, winning 28-27. That winning rink was skippered by Shane Briggs and featured Mick Bulger, Paul Bulger, and Graeme Bates. Grant Seeary skippered Chalambar’s rink, which featured Gary Todd, Shane Davis, and Jess Austin.  

Chalambar’s winning rink was skippered by Chris Young and featured Mark Griffits, Richard Harricks, and Hans Holz. They won 22-19 over the rink skippered by Brent Bulger, featuring Brian Leehane, Craig Dunford, and Mark Helmich.  

Aradale defeated Landsborough 81-71, winning two rinks on the day. Daniel Mahoney’s rink, featuring Flynn Jamieson, Brian Richards, and Nathan Sladdin, defeated Roland Currie’s rink, featuring Dennis Low, Dale Anderson, and Brent Baddeley, 32-26. 

Gary Jamieson’s rink, featuring Gary Sherwell, Ken Mahney, and Michael Dowling, won 28-16 over Gary Green’s rink featuring Gerald Parry, Gary Hannett, and Neville Grills.  

Landsborough’s winning rink was skippered by Robert Hodgetts. Featuring Peter Browne, Corey Hope, and Craig Stewart, they won 29-21 over Daniel Foster’s rink, featuring Peter Oehm, James Walker and  Trevor Cleary.  

Ararat defeated Lake Bolac and District 83-59, winning two rinks.  

The closest rink Ararat won was skippered by Aaron Pianta and featured Peter Paterson, Gary Pianta, and Richard Fisher. They won 30-28 over the rink skippered by Rodney Ford, featuring Ray McLeod, Matthew Breen, and Robert Stewart.

Bradley Jackson’s rink, featuring Stephen Jackson, Ruby Jackson, and Michael North, defeated Ian Park’s rink, featuring Roger Flanner, Julie Walker, and John McInnes in a blowout, 34-8. 

Lake Bolac and District’s winning rink was skippered by Andrew Robertson and featured Jonathan Park, Judith Veale, and Colin McKenzie. They won 23-19 over Jake Strafehl’s rink featuring Doug Walton, Peter Bigmore, and Laurynne Strafehl. 

In the Stawell derby, Stawell Golf was too good for their rivals, winning 89-49, winning all three rinks.  

Rink one, skippered by Gary Blackman, featuring Adrian Troeth, Robin Austerberry and Les Montgomery, won 28-18.  

Rink two skippered by Bryan Adamson, featuring Peter Walker, Brian Malcolm, and John Griffiths, won 34-16. 

Rink three, skippered by Greg Reading, featuring Andrew Reading, Ashley Howard, and Peter Greenberger, won 27-15. 

In Division Two, Aradale is the only team undefeated after Aradale Blue forfeited. Stawell Golf, who were undefeated heading into round four, lost 56-85 to their rivals, Stawell. 

In the other matches, Ararat VRI defeated Chalambar 85-55, and Lake Bolac and District defeated Ararat in a 78-75 thriller.
