Ararat’s Scouts welcome everyone to come and try Scouts this term.

Last week the group took part in District Founders Day in Horsham where Scout Leader Ashley Darroch, who has been with the group since it reformed, was presented with his Wood Beads, marking the completion of his mandatory training and a ‘major accomplishment’ for the group.

Group Leader Claire Roll said that despite the group having only 10 participants, the confidence built within each child has been incredible.

“Scouting is all about learning skills for life. Our program is designed to let young people lead, while adults support them. We offer fun and challenging activities that teach practical skills for all ages. Our goal is to help young people grow into strong, confident, and resilient young adults who can also be leaders in their community,” she said.

Additionally the scouts are again opening their doors to new members with a come and try trial with hopes more locals will come on board.

“Youth are welcome to come along for a trial of three nights at the Scout Hall. It is a great way to see what scouting is all about, and over that three weeks get to trial a variety of activities,” Claire said.

And there is no shortage of adventure ahead, with scouts attending the upcoming Stradbroke Cup while cubs will head to a state-run ‘Cuboree’ during the September school holidays, and joeys will take part in a district sleepover and zoo day.

The group is also calling for more adults to step forward to help support the team.

“At the moment we are really trying to get leaders,” Claire said.

“If you’re an adult who loves working with young people and want to help out as a leader or on the scout committee, we’d love to hear from you. Our aim is to have two leaders per section, so they can run independent of each other and to have the committee running to support the leaders and our group.”

The group currently meets on Monday nights from 6pm to 7.30pm at 1 Campbell Street.

For more information about joining as a leader or as a scout, contact the Ararag group at  gl.ararat@scoutsvictoria.com.au or phone Claire on 0428 149 978.
