Ararat CFA open day puts fire safety in the spotlight
THE Ararat Fire Brigade will open its doors to the community on Saturday, October 3rd, with a day focused on fire safety, emergency preparedness and community connection. Running from 10-2 pm, the open day will provide information on property preparedness, safety and bushfire awareness, with a range of emergency services and community organisations attending.
CFA Community Safety Coordinator Sophie Cooper said there would be plenty on offer for families, including activities for children.
“It's a good chance to do something positive with the community. We've got Marshall from Paw Patrol and a kids' colouring competition,” she said.
A barbecue and coffee van will also be on site, making sure everyone has enough energy to explore the local fire station.
The CFA’s mini trucks will be returning once again, giving children and a few competitive adults the opportunity to race miniature fire trucks while using real fire hoses.
The activity has become a highlight of CFA community events, particularly for younger visitors.
“It's really fun, especially with kids on the mini trucks.”
Ambulance Victoria, SES, Forest Fire Management Victoria, Victoria Police and Ararat Rural City Council will be among the organisations providing information about emergency management and community safety.
This year’s gathering will also include the Red Knights, a motorcycle group that promotes fire safety.
With several significant bushfire seasons in recent years, CFA members will also demonstrate what happens when a fire call comes in.
The open day will also provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about the Fire Medical Response program.
“I'm sure half the community is completely unaware of it, so having that on display is also great.”
