30 new homes will be built in Ararat for singles, couples and families facing homelessness.
In Ararat, eight homes are under construction - six one-bedroom townhouses and two three-bedroom family homes. Six more - three one-bedroom and three two-bedroom - are planned for the township.
A further 16 one-bedroom homes for people on the Victorian Housing Register will begin construction early next year.

These homes will create 13 direct and 45 indirect local jobs, not only providing secure and stable housing for those who need it most but also boosting the local economy.
This pipeline of funding for shovel-ready or in-progress projects has helped many builders and developers through the pandemic and continues to stimulate construction activity - and economies - across Victoria.
In Stawell, four homes are under construction - two one-bedroom and two two-bedroom homes - with a further 16 one-bedroom townhouses in planning.
These projects are expected to create 28 local jobs.
The government's Big Housing Build is the largest single investment in social and affordable housing in Australia's history - delivering more than 12,000 new homes and creating an average of 10,000 jobs per year over the next four years.
The investment includes $1.25 billion in regional areas - ensuring the economic and social benefits of the program are felt in communities across the state.
Housing Minister Richard Wynne said it was important for the economy in regional Victoria to keep moving, keep people in jobs and keep communities connected.
"Our Big Housing Build is doing all of these things," he said.
"These projects are not only providing a roof over the head of Victorians who need it - they are generating thousands of local jobs right across the state and supporting our economic recovery.
"We've got expressions of interest for youth homelessness at the moment. We're looking for opportunities to partner up with local government partner up with the philanthropic sector to see if we can do some more work in terms of youth homelessness.
"It's obviously a significant issue in regional Victoria as much as metropolitan Melbourne."

Mr Wynne said a tendered process would be undertaken for supplies for the builds.
"Hopefully the local builders are keen to get this work and we're keen to support it," he said.
Ararat Rural City CEO, Dr Tim Harrison said he commended the Victorian Government on its $7.5 million investment in Ararat as part of the Big Housing Build program.
"Everyone should have a roof over their head and somewhere safe to live," he said.
"Thirty more dwellings for social and affordable housing will provide a better future for those most vulnerable in our community."
Western Victoria member Jaala Pulford said the Grampians region, like many across Victoria, needed more housing choices.
"These projects will give local people the safety and security of a home, as well as create jobs and help build strong, inclusive communities," she said.
