Ararat Rural City Council said traffic is being diverted around Back Bolac Road via Mortlake Ararat Road, Glenelg Highway, Mount Pleasant Road and Willaura-Wickliffe Road, due to a lane closure for the duration of the project.
OTHER NEWS:
Ararat Rural City Council CEO Dr Tim Harrison said the project was worth $2.5 million and the reconstruction of the busy rural road was part of a larger effort to maintain our extensive road network.
"With a municipal road network of over 2,300 kilometres, Ararat Rural City Council needs to ensure that rural people who rely on local roads every day can get where they are going safely," Dr Harrison said.
"Back Bolac Road is one of the region's main routes for transporting grains to storage facilities and also a key route for residents travelling between Lake Bolac and Willaura.
"Council's Civil Works team has carried out maintenance works on the gravel shoulders by re-sheeting and grading, but substantial rainfall has caused significant softening, making the shoulders unsafe.
"The project will deliver a new, 6.2-metre-wide sealed road pavement with well-formed shoulders, including replacement of crossing culverts, guard rails and applying road line markings with reflectors."
The project has been jointly funded by the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program and Ararat Rural City Council.
Construction company Downer EDI Works Pty Ltd is carrying out works for this project and is anticipated to be completed by March 2022, weather permitting.
