The 25-year-old was a late call-up for the Australian team, replacing Cameron Meyer who withdrew to stay home with his family after his father was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer.
Hamilton had injury concerns of his own recently when he was forced to abandon the Tour de France after a nasty crash on stage 13.
He separated his AC joint in the incident that sent a number of riders tumbling down a steep slope on the side of the road.

Riders hit loose gravel on the road with many hitting the ground and others running off the road and into a ravine.
Hamilton tried to continue before stopping due to his injuries, alongside Team BikeExchange teammate Simon Yates.
Despite the injury, Hamilton flew out to Tokyo last Friday and is set to line-up with Australian teammates Richie Porte and Jack Haig on Saturday at the beginning of the Fuji International Speedway course.
Speaking with Australian Community Media Hamilton's father Bruce, said his everything was "business as usual" for his son after the injury.
"He's in a little bit of pain but he's got it taped up and he's been training," Mr Hamilton said.

"He's been in this situation plenty of times before. They're pretty tough they can tolerate a fair bit of pain."
On Saturday, Hamilton will become the latest Olympian raised in Ararat, alongside the likes of five-time Olympian and Olympic silver medal cyclist Shane Kelly.
The opening ceremony for the Olympics will be hosted on Friday and telecast in Australia.
