Richardson Oval was shrouded in a thick blanket of fog when Rovers and Mounties got underway in the first of two matches the association held on Sunday, June 6. The bitter conditions did little to deter the player who put on a great game.

Late in the final quarter, a single point separated the two sides, but Mounties eventually won 7.4 (46) to 5.2 (32).

The fog began to dissipate as Warriors and Bombers took to the field. It was another good contest, with a solid second half helping Bombers to a 5.5 (36) to 2.4 (16) win.

Ararat and District Junior Football Association president Shane Jenkins said he was pleased the juniors could continue enjoying their sport.

"It was good. It was really well received by the people that were there, which wasn't many because we had to cap the numbers under 50 (not including players, coaches or umpires)," he said.

"I think it's really important for the kids. When they went back into lockdown again they may have been thinking 'oh no, hear we go all over again.' But to get them back involved with the community, playing their sport again was great."

Jenkins said logistics in holding the matches under the COVIDsafe protocol were not overly inhibitive.

"It ran a lot smoother than we thought it was going to. it came together really well on the day," he said.

"99 per cent of people were fantastic, and it worked really well.

"We put one game forward 15 minutes and the second one back 15 minutes to give us a break in between so one team could clear out and the other could come in without going over the cap of 50 people at the ground."
