Lake Bolac College students have jumped at the opportunity be involved with some of its creative programming.
On Saturday night at the iconic Twilight Celebration, festival goers will encounter the giant brolga and emu as they arrive to the lake side with an array of cultural dance from three major Indigenous dance groups of the south west.
The big birds have been created with Natimuk sculpturer Dave Jones who built the bird from old farm scarp metal, who joined forces with Gunditjmara master weaver Aunty Bronwyn Razem for this welding and weaving project.
Festival guests can drop in and sit with Aunty Bronwyn on Saturday as she shares the ancient art of weaving - put on by the Ararat Regional Gallery.
On Friday at 11am, Tibetan Buddhist monks will commence a three-day process of creating an extraordinary intricate art work called a mandala from millions of grains of coloured sands in St Bernard's Catholic Church. (free event)
The night unfolds with the second festival art auction and dinner, highlighting celebrated and emerging artists at the Lake Bolac Town hall ($25).
Sarah Caroll will also be live at the Lake Bolac Pub from 8pm (free event)
On Saturday, hear Mick Thomas (formerly of ‘Wedding, Parties, Anything’) with new band ‘The Roving Commissions’.
Mick will also offer a song-writing class on Sunday morning.
The festival will welcome back to her home stage Rose Bygrave as she prepares her new album ‘The Yabby Catcher’.
Songman Neil Murray will take to the stage Sunday at midday.
There will be so much to fill your senses with a Mini Film Festival (via gold coin donation) at the Lake Bolac College AE McIntyre Hall.
“We can’t wait to welcome you to one the most unique and special events in the Rural City of Ararat,” festival director Elyjah McLeod said.
