Western Victoria MP, Jaala Pulford, said families within Ararat Rural City families will benefit from a share in a $22.1 million expansion of the Supported Playgroups program.
Currently, the playgroups operate in less than half of Victoria’s local government areas, but the expansion means they will soon be available in Ararat for the first time.
Ms Pulford said the additional funding will mean about 64 local families will be able to access a local supported playgroup in Ararat Rural City.
“Supported playgroups have already helped many families in Victoria and it’s wonderful to know mums and dads in Ararat will now be able to access this service for the first time,” Ms Pulford said.
“A widening of the eligibility criteria will also result in more families being able to access the service, such as those experiencing family violence, breakdown or social isolation.”
The program aims to improve learning outcomes for families that need additional support.
