A group of past parents, inaugural principal John Medwell and the 2nd principal Harry Wheeler were given a guided tour of the school and then enjoyed lunch at Chalambar Gold Club.
Back in the early 1970s every child living in Ararat North had to cross the Adelaide highway and Adelaide Railway line to attend ANY school in Ararat.
A group of parents got together and lobbied the State Govt. during an election year and we were granted a new school in Ararat North.
In 1978 the principal John Medwell was appointed and his office was upstairs in the Ararat Mechanics Institute as the school was still under construction.
On 7th March 1978 John convened a meeting in the Ararat Town Hall Supper room to form a Parents' Association.
The meeting was very well attended and office bearers were elected President Kathryn Freeman, Secretary Allison Slee and treasurer Faye Chalmers.
During 1978 this group was very active raising funds and purchasing equipment. One of the functions was a "Mock kitchen tea" to gather equipment for the school canteen.
An interim School Council was also formed in 1978.
The school opened in 1979 with just under 200 students. A bright vibrant building and wonderful band of teachers and parents which made it a great place for children to be educated.
It is hoped that a reunion involving all Ararat North past staff and students can be organised for the 40th year in April 2019.
