Willaura 2 sets 21 games defeated Buangor 2 sets 20 games. It doesn’t get any closer than a one-game win and that was all that separated Willaura and Buangor on Saturday morning.
Willaura was missing their number one man but his younger sister stepped in as number four moving all players up a position in the team. Willaura got off to a strong start with Tim Hartwich and Tom Fraser combining well. A mid-set slump by Buangor allowed Willaura back into the set before Tim and Tom regrouped to take the opening set 6-4. Buangor also got started well in the second set winning the first four games, however, the Willaura girl power combination of Erica Evans and Emma Vallance found their range and fought their way back into the match winning the next six games straight to win the set and tie up the score at a set apiece and even on games.
The third set also went to Willaura 6-3. The final set was a struggle from the start, going with serve and with many deuces played. Buangor finally got the breakthrough and claimed the final two games avoiding a tiebreaker and winning the set 7-5. With the set score tied two each, it came down to games with Willaura just managing to hold on and sneak the win by a game.
Moyston 0 sets 2 games lost to Ararat White 4 sets 24 games. Moyston had a very tough day on the court. Ararat White got off to a flying start winning the opening two sets and only dropping one game. There was not to be any joy for Moyston in the second half either with White again winning both remaining sets and again only dropping one game. The win confirms whites second ladder placing ensuring the A Grade grand final will be between Willaura and Ararat White.
B GRADE
Tatyoon 2 sets 18 games lost to Ararat Blue 2 sets 19 games. Tatyoon and Ararat Blue also had a very close match but the home court advantage just wasn’t enough to get Tatyoon over the line also going down by one game. Dallas and Cody McKay proved to be very handy fill-ins for Tatyoon, with Dallas winning both his sets. The win for Blue puts them level on premiership points with Tatyoon but Tatyoon will retain top ladder position by sets and games.
Ararat Red 4 sets 25 games defeated Ararat Gold 0 sets 16 games. Ararat Red is finding its form at the right end of the season scoring their second win. Red won the two opening sets but the third set proved to be more challenging going down to a tiebreaker. Red managed to hold on and win the tiebreaker before winning the final set giving all four sets and jumping them into third place in the B Grade ladder.
