The Halls Gap Cricket Club were joined by former Australian cricketer David Hussey for a super six overs cricket match in Ballarat on Sunday.

The match was one of three the team played at Victoria Park, as part of a charity event.

The former international cricketer said it was a fun experience to be involved in.

“It was good fun meeting the boys and playing with them,” he said.

“They love their cricket which is pretty infectious and that is great to see.”

Hussey was joined by Shane Harwood as the for international players which rotated between teams throughout the day.

He said initially he was unsure if he could be involved but glad he was able to make it work.

“The organisers contacted Kookaburra and asked if I would be interested in being involved in the event,” he said.

“Initially I wasn’t really sure because I hadn’t played much cricket but the chance to put on the pads and meet some new people ticked the boxes and fortunately I was able to say yes.”

Gappers A Grade vice captain Luke Stevens organised the club to be involved and said it was a worthwhile day for the junior players in particular.

“Hussey was great with our younger players, he had plenty of advice for them during the game which will help them develop quicker,” he said.

“It was a great opportunity for our club to develop and create new and exciting opportunities.

“We would love to go back again and encourage more teams to participate.”
