Firefighters were called to the incident about 20 kilometres north-east of Ararat just before 11am and there were five vehicles responding with the hour.
There are reports that the fire is burning near a church.
The CFA has issued an advice message is for Joel South, Glelofty, Eversley, Crowlands, Dunneworthy.
“There is a grassfire at Crowlands near Ararat-St Arnaud Road that is not yet under control
“There is currently no threat to communities, but you should continue to stay informed and monitor conditions.”
