No fires can be lit in the open air in the region between one minute past midnight on January 18 and 11.59pm on January 19
The Country Fire Authority has advised residents that the fire danger rating for the South West was severe on both days with a hot day forecast.
People living in areas at risk of fire are advised to activate their bush fire plan.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a maximum temperature of 40 degrees in Ararat on Thursday and 42 on Friday.
On Thursday there will be northerly winds of 20 to 30 kilometres per hour tending northwesterly 25 to 35 km/h in the morning then becoming light in the late evening.
On Friday there will be north to northwesterly winds 15 to 25 km/h increasing to 35 km/h before shifting cooler south to southeasterly 20 to 30 km/h in the morning and early afternoon
Thursday and Friday will also be Total Fire Ban days for Stawell, Northern Grampians Shire and the Wimmera region.
